Is the gift for a new baby? Consider getting the baby some essentials such as onesies, receiving blankets, or bath time items.  If you are planning a larger gift, consider such items as a car seat, stroller, rocker, or high chair. For larger items, discuss the purchase in advance with the parents, and let them participate in the selection. An internet shopping spree with the prospective parent is always great fun.

If the baby is a first child, consider safety items that will help prepare the home for the new baby. Items such as baby gates, padded covers for grocery carts or dining out, outlet cover & power strip covers, cabinet latches, auto sunshades, night lights, furniture corner covers or fireplace padding, and baby monitors are always appreciated. Baby gates now come in many varieties that are popular: wide baby gates, stair baby gates,wooden baby gates, deck gates, etc.

Is the gift for a child with a new baby in the home?  Consider getting a booster seat for the big brother or sister and a car seat cover for the new baby. Perhaps personalized music cds or books that include both children’s names would be ideal gifts for kids. You can also get some finger puppets so the older child can enjoy entertaining the baby.

Are the parents the sentimental type?  Consider a keepsake gift, or personalized gift such as blanket. stuffed animal, picture frame or other item that the child can treasure forever.

Are the parents avid sports fans or proud university graduates? Get the child a logo item such as a baby blanket, sports team apparel, or other team toy. These make great gifts for kids.
